Dr. Jensen was born on Aug. 22, 1914, in Burlington, Wis. He was a third-generation Baha'i, the son of Daisy Dell Petersen and Christ Jensen. In 1912, 'Abdu'l-Baha visited the home of Dr. Jensen's parents and bestowed a special blessing upon his mother. In the 1930s, Dr. Jensen worked his way through the National College of Chiropractic and Naturopathic Physicians in Chicago. Leland married Opal M. Doyle on May 28, 1938 in Novelty, Mo. Drs. "Lee" and Opal practiced naturopathic and chiropractic medicine in Chicago, St. Louis, and Joplin, Mo., and Missoula. Together, Leland and Opal pioneered the Baha'i Faith in the Indian Ocean on the islands of Mauritius and Reunion for four years. Leland was knighted along with his wife by Shoghi Effendi for his heroic work in establishing the Baha'i Faith. They were the only Knights of Baha'u'llah out of 150 knighted who remained firm in the covenant. He and Opal moved to Missoula in 1965. After having established a thriving practice Dr. Jensen was wrongfully incarcerated in the Old Montana State Prison for a crime he did not commit. "What man plans for evil, God plans for good." An innocent man, Dr. Jensen spent the first full day of his imprisonment in the prison in Deer Lodge on Aug. 9, 1969, fulfilling Morrisite prophecy. His incarceration in the prison also fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 3 for the return of Jesus the high priest after the order of Melchizedek. After the destruction of the body of believers by the covenant-breaking "hands," he arose as the great educator, devoting his life to the fulfillment of his mission. This mission was to establish the promised kingdom of God on earth, which is an actual spiritual government from God. He accomplished this by bringing forth into this world the misunderstood covenant and teachings of Baha'u'llah. He is the only one who fulfills the prophecies of all world religions for the establisher of this kingdom that Jesus Christ taught us to pray for, saying, "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is heaven …" His many titles include the seventh angel, the knight of the white horse, the lamb and the return of Jesus the high priest — the son returned to establish his Father's kingdom. Dr. Jensen is greatly beloved by his countless students throughout the world. Although he has ascended to the supernal realm, his spirit continues on in our hearts and his influence will continue to be felt in the coming millennium. He is survived by his second wife, Frances "Wind" Jensen, the many friends of faith and, most importantly, he is succeeded by the Second International Baha'i Council, located at 1830 South Ave. W., Missoula. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." (John 3:16–17) The funeral service was held on Thursday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Thousands of Baha'is around the world will be mourning the passing of Dr. Leland Jensen in a worldwide memorial service at 8 p.m. Saturday. Locally, this will be held at the Unity Church, 201 University Ave. Memorial services will also be held in other centers such as Aspen, Colo., Madison, Wis., Anchorage, Alaska, Minneapolis, Minn., New York state and overseas.   --- **Sources** - "Leland Jensen." *The Missoulian* (Missoula, MT), August 9, 1996. https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-missoulian-obit-leland-jensen-09-aug/15560862/   --- **Archive Classification** - **Collection:** Source Materials → News and Magazines **Reference Information** - **Permanent Link:** https://leland-jensen.info/source-materials/news/1996-08-09-missoulian-leland-jensen-obituary/ - **Download PDF:** [1996-08-09-missoulian-leland-jensen-obituary.pdf](https://leland-jensen-info.netlify.app/1996-08-09-missoulian-leland-jensen-obituary.pdf) - **Archive Home:** https://leland-jensen.info - **Last Updated:** 22 July 2026 --- [Site Guide](site%20guide.md)  |   [Sitemap](Clickable%20Sitemap.md)  |   [Downloads](downloads.md)  |  [Contact Us](contact%20us.md) **Dr. Leland Jensen**: Teachings and Commentaries Archive © 2026 Baha'i Council of Dane County, all rights reserved.  [Copyright & Usage Policy](copyright.md) ___
